I came across another interesting post on One Man and His Blog about the Newspaper industry and the outcome for laidoff journalists. Apparently, journalism jobs are few and far between. According to the post, only 6% have since found other newspaper work.

This was only a survey so maybe it is more pessimistic than it should be due to self-selection bias but it still paints a grim picture. Keep on pounding the pavement everyone and keep your options open in other related industries.
