This is very unlikely to occur [...]

April Unemployment

I figured I would include a little bit of analysis on the April WARN numbers that I’ve posted. According to California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification database, there were a total of 8329 employees who were laid off as a result of a plant closing or mass layoff. As the WARN website outlines, “WARN provides [...]

Unemployed Families

In 2007, there were approximately 512,000 families in the United States that were completely unemployed. In 2008, this number increased to 663,000 families that do not have a single employed worker. Overall, 83% of families with an unemployed worker have another worker who is employed. This helps alleviate some of the burden of unemployment.
Unfortunately, the [...]

Layoff Relief

While I have been a steadfast Letterman fan for years, I respect what Leno has been doing recently. According to the Associated Press, he visited an Ohio town which has been severely impacted by the economic downturn. He offered a free comedy show in an effort to give laid off workers some emotional relief.
Arguably the [...]

Microsoft laid off 3,000

I missed a couple of good stories during my nearly month long sabbatical. One of the ones that I missed from last week was that Microsoft laid off another 3,000 people last Wednesday.
