april-unemployment

I figured I would include a little bit of analysis on the April WARN numbers that I’ve posted. According to California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification database, there were a total of 8329 employees who were laid off as a result of a plant closing or mass layoff. As the WARN website outlines, “WARN provides protection to employees, their families, and communities by requiring employers to give affected employees and other state and local representatives notice 60 days in advance of a plant closing or mass layoff. Advance notice provides employees and their families some transition time to adjust to the prospective loss of employment, to seek and obtain alternative jobs and, if necessary, to enter skills training or retraining that will allow these employees to successfully compete in the job market.”

The most layoffs occured on April 26th (EXPO Design Center had layoffs in multiple cities). The largest company/organization with the most layoffs in one city was the Community Hospital of Los Gatos. The Community Hospital had 500 layoffs.

May data coming up in the next few posts.
