I came across another interesting post on One Man and His Blog about the Newspaper industry and the outcome for laidoff journalists. Apparently, journalism jobs are few and far between. According to the post, only 6% have since found other newspaper work.

For employers seeking layoff alternatives:
Consider reducing costs outside of human resources (sell excess machines, rent available office space, or renegotiate with suppliers)
Consider a 5% pay cut (5% reduction across 20 workers = 1 layoff saved with more productivity than with only 19 employees)
Consider reorganizing without any layoffs to go after increased market share as everyone [...]
I just wanted to write up another post about someone’s real life experiences with layoffs. However, this person was on the other side of the desk and was doing the firing. I felt this would give another perspective on this horrible process and unforgiving economy.
